History

Headquartered in Winnipeg Manitoba, M3 was founded as M3 Aerial Productions in 2015 originally operating as a media productions company.  Manitoba’s largely resource based economy lead the company to shift its focus to precision agriculture and mining later that same year.  By 2018, M3 was well established as a provider of commercial drone services with numerous notable events, including:

Over the years, M3 has developed industry leading capabilities in numerous industries in addition to developing one of the most successful training schools for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems. In 2020, the company became part of the Volatus Aerospace Group and split into two corporate entities, M3 Drone Training Zone, and M3 Drone Services, to provide a greater focus and accelerated growth both in professional pilot and industry education, and Commercial Drone Services.

Today, M3 Drone Services, working with the Volatus Aerospace Group, is concentrated on both organic and non-organic growth in the area of commercial drone services and specifically with its ‘Drones as a Service’ program offering both Opex and Capex type solutions for industry applications.

Leadership

Matthew Johnson, President & CEO

Educated at the University of Manitoba, Matthew holds 3 Degrees including a Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Education. Prior to shifting his focus to M3, he spent 5 years teaching high school mathematics and served 10 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, releasing at the Rank of Captain. Matt has trained more that 1,000 pilots across the country and logged over 600 hours of RPAS flight time and currently serves on the Standards Council of Canada, UAS Mirror Committee, and the Unmanned Systems Canada, BVLOS Regulatory Committee.

In 2018, Matthew was named as one of the Top 7 Drone Visionaries in Precision Agriculture and made the list of the Top 50 Drone Visionaries in the world in a report by the Commercial UAV News.
